And lastly I would refer to the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights which was approved by the General Assembly of the
United Nations in December last. This ie one of the most eloquent
declarations of the principles of liberty and the dignity of man I
have ever read. It should in my opinion be impressed on the minds
of all young people. If its conditions could be carried out an
era of peace would surely follow in which all human beings could
devote their full bowers to the improvement of the lot of all
mankind. Everything in this document is consistent with the
teachings of the Jewish faith as I know them. Jewish education
could show the way by relating the principles in this statement
to the instruction in Jewish schools. I agree with Dr. Bodet that
the dissemination of the principles expressed in the Declaration
of Human Rights through all teaching would strengthen the faith of
every human being in the dignity of his own existence and foster
the fraternal impulse which bids him join his fellows to save by
united action the heritage of civilisation. This is certainly an
effort worthy of Jewish education.
