But this indirect route to the goal of amity among nations is
too slow
The unstable international situation requires that
a
specialized program dealing with problems of international understanding
and peace be made an integral part of the work of schools and of informal
educational agencies. It is urgently necessary that the people of all
nations come to know samething of their fellow men in other areas of
the globe. A vigorous campaign of education is therefore needed, focused
directly on problems of international understanding.
The U. S. National Commission for UNESCO
has enlisted the
cooperation of many cultural organizations in the crucial task of
educating our people about the purposes of UNESCO and the part which
they can play in- it. Nevertheless, much yet remains to be done in making
Americans conscious of the work of this important agency.
