ASSUMPTIONS: (1) Sophomores, Juniors, end Seniors in college in 1950-51
allowed to continue; one-half the Froshmen allowed to continue. Volun-
tary enlistment negligible. Assumed attrition rates, for "ordinary
run" students (viz., those already in college. 4-F's, and returned
veterans), : 30% from froshman to sophomore year; 20% from sophomore to
junior; 7% from junior to senior, and 4% from beginning of senior year
to graduation. Assumed attrition rates for highly selected component
of 75,000 cases: 10%, 2.5%, 2.5%, and 2.5%. The basic data regarding
the number of males reaching 18 years in each year were supplied by
the Bureau of the Census: For other details regarding assumptions and
calculations, see the tables which follow.
