MESSAGE * I wish to commend the radio stations of America for the part they have played in the nation-wide effort to help give our children better education. Messages broadcast by radio have alerted the Nation to the effect of our growing birth rate upon the Nation's schools--the need for more teachers and the need for more classrooms. Partly as a result of these radio messages there is better understanding of the need for close cooperation between laymen and educators. I sincerely congratulate, The Advertising Council, on its 10th Anniversary, for its great contribution to American education through the Better Schools Campaign. In my opinion, broadcasters and advertisers have performed a genuine public service by reminding us--through special programs and thousands of forceful messages--that "EDUCATION MOLDS. OUR FUTURE. BETTER SCHOOLS BUILD A STRONGER AMERICA. * By Earl James McGrath, U. S.Commissioner of Education, Federal Security Agency, Washington, D. C., recorded on September 10, 1952, for a message of congratulations on the 10th anniversary of the Advertising Council to be used on all radio stations.
