OCR Page 1 of 2THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
July 16, 1945.
Dear Bess,
We arrived in Berlin yesterday afternoon about three
o' clock. Were received with all the honors possible. The Russian,
British and our own Ambassadors and Ministers met us at the
airport. I reviewed the troops drawn up as a guard of honor
and then we were taken to a house in Potsdam, where I am told
the head of the movie colony lived before the Russians came in.
He is not available for interview now. Most of us believe that
he is somewhere between here and Siberia on probably, special
duty.
The Prime Minister came to see me this morning.
He brought his daughter and Mr. Eden, and we had a very pleasant
conference. I am expecting to see the Marshal from Russia
either this afternoon or tomorrow, and then business starts.
This house is on a beautiful location - overlooks
a lake - and I have all the comforts of home and get as much
waiting on as I get at the White House, which I am sure is too
much.
Tell Margaret she still owes me a letter.
You send your letters to the White House with
instructions that they be forwarded on to me and I will get
them almost as promptly as if you sent them to me in Washington.
Lots of love,
Only stay I could get this
Henry
in a pouch.
