This order will be read to all organizations at the first agombly after ita regeipt. *Hoadquarters Becond Army American Expeditionary Forges, Jamiary 10, 1919. From: Adjutant General, Second Arny, TO: Commanders of Corps, Division and Army Troops. Subject: Masks. 1. In view of the faot that authority has been granted for troops returning to the United States to oarry their gas masks, and that morsover it has been recommendied that they may be retained as souvenirs, the fol- lowing warning shoudd be given wide circulation. 3. The gas misk gives complete protection against all gases net with on the battleficld, it is not proof, however, against auch gases : (a) Artificial or natural gas used in heating and lighting. (b) Carbon monoxide, met with in blasting opezations, (o) Nitrogen oxides, such as leughing gas and the products of explosions. (a) Fire damp or mazsh gas met with in mines. (e) Fumea of gasoline, benzene, alcohol, etc. 3. Men should be warned that under no conditions mast tests be made, or reliance placed upon the respirator in atmosphere of such gases. 4.
