MEMORANDUM:

MEMO. TO ALL OFFICERS.
I.
You will see that each separate billet as it is taken will have
a reliable Non-Commissioned Officer in charge and that the squad or simi-
lar group, working party, fatigue detail, etc., 18 always domanded.
II.
Attention is called to the matter of saluting. Organization
Commanders will take up the instruction in this matter and make known to
their men the great necessity of the most careful observanod of this.
In the case of groups of soldiers not in formation, at work or
engaged in athletics, the first man observing the approach of an officer
will oall"attention", when all men will face the offider and salute.
Uniform regulations will be strictly carofully explained again
and strictly enforced.
III. In mitters pertaining to Stable Management, and the care of
the horse, harness, material, etc., General Orders (G.H.Q.) and Artillery
Drill Regulations will goven whenever there 10 conflict with orders from
other commands.
Although officers in charge of Departments must necessarily be
appointed the organization commander is alono responsible for the care,
condition, training, etc., of his organization and will be held strictly
accountable.
Attention is especially onlled to the matter of stables, and
the prevention of communicable diseases. The Veterinarians will be conp
sulted continuously in these matters and their advice followed.
Grooming will habitually be in the open - and be done quickly
and in & vigorous manner.
Horses will not be orowded. There should be NOT least five (5)
fest alloted to such animal.
Especial care will be taken to detect colds, doughing, etc.,
to the end that the regiment may continue free from Influensa.
Alternate head and foot sleeping will be insisted upon. If there
be an umsual number of mon on siok report from any cause prompt report
will be made to these Headquarters. Arrangements will be made so that
each sleeping space maybe screened from its neighbor with the shelter tent
half or other cloth should the nadessity arise.
IV
In each town where troops are billeted the senior officer will
call upon the Mayor or other senior officer to the end that cordial re-
lations maybe established and maintained. No disparging remarks about or
towards the Fronch will be tolerated from any officer or solaier.
V.
Each Senior Officer will organize his commund for the purpose of
combatting fires. Especial messures will be taken in Fire Prevention.
VI
All officers will adquant themselves with the regulations con-
cerning vonereal diseases and enforce them strictly. The Commander-id-
Chief of the A.R.F. is, in addition to issuing his regulations, asking all
of his officers to do all in their power to prevent these diseases. The
measures to cobat same are well known and all officers are enjoined to
make a strong effort to maintain the good record of the regiment in this
regard.

VIII. All wagons will be carefully wished and thoroughly overhauled
and repaired.

It 1s observed that helmets are in many instances dirty. They
