Ro: R.I.O., 140th Inf.
at 21:15 called O.P's Metz and Strassbeug to ascertain if barr ge was called
for from our'sector. They reported no signals observed from any point in our
front. Barrage lasted thirteen minutes and fell in immediate vicinity in which
our patrol was advencing, nearing this point at time of burr ge Had we known
or this firing our patrol would have been held up until after barrage and it no uld
have been to our advantage. As it was they were forced to change course and
withdraw.

October 21.st a barrage was put down about a hundred meters in fromt of
our patrol. Again tonight October 23, the same thing happened. IfIt is possible
the matter should be investigated. 1 was not out on Oct. 21, but tonight I am
positive our lines did not call for any artillery fire. There was no need for
it on either occassion.
