NATIONAL ONE HARRY MENT U.S. GOVER FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Washington, D.C., March 31--Nine orphaned youngsters are among the sixty-eight Displaced Persons arriving at Neew York's international airport (Idlewild) April 1, the International Refugee Organ- ization announced today. The unaccompanied children, who range in age from 3 to 11 include three of Polish Ukrainian -igin, two Lithuanian and four Jugo- slavians, All the children are Catholic. The orphans will be met by staff members of the U.S. Committee for the care of European children whose European representatives prepared the children for resettlement to this country. The plane, chartered by the IRO, includes pregnant women and babies for whom a trip by surface ship would involve undue hard- ship. Other members of the family group also are aboard. Two sets of sisters and one of brothers are among the orphan group to be cared for by the U.S. Committee. Foster homes for the children will be found by the U.S. Committee with the aid of the Catholic Committee for Refugees. The family groups abcard the Transocean Airline plane will be met by relatives and resettlement agencies which have sponsored them for immigration. All the passengers, including the orphans, were selected and processed for movement to this country by the U.S. Displaced Persons Commission which is responsible for implementing the U.S. Displaced Persons Act, providing for the admission to this country of 205,000 refugees within a two year period. ########
