Campbell called upon se this afternoon at three e'elook by prior appointment. Be indicated that the purpose of his visit WAS to inform the Department of an exchange of top seeret corres- conéance which had recently teken place between the Foreign Minister of Canada and the Fries Winister of India onnearning a possible solu- tion to the Karean orisis. He pointed out that the Ganadian Govern- ment wished to inform the United States Government of this exchange of correspondence in order that there would be no feeling that Cansda was noting unilaterally in the present eriole behind our broks and that the correspondence MER initiated by Foreign Winister Peareon on a purely personal basis.
