Dear Jack:
I enclose an "oral message" which I have
-
been asked to bring informally to the notice of the
State Department. I am sure that it will cause no
difficulties, but they would like in Ottawa to be
quite certain that the understanding expressed in
it on the continuance of all present means of con-
sultation on Korean issues following the appointment
of a Deputy Chief of Staff to General Clark in Tokyo
is shared by the State Department and the Pentagon
and General Clark himself.
