Complimented Secty Matthews on testimony before Congress.
JOHNSON
Has invited Pres 3 aides to real estate and hospital
briefing today. Also suggested that Cabinet go to briefing
on Jan 23rd.

MCGRATH
Feb. 13th to 15th is U. S. Attys Conference. Also being
invited are A. G.'s of the country. Asked President to drop in.

Agreed to do so.
CHAPMAN
Made survey and found that there is more coal in home bins
now than a year ago despite the curtailed mining production.
THE PRESIDENT
Described problems of declaring national emergency. Has
hopes that the situation will work out - is holding back for
cooling off period of 80 days - which he hopes can be done during
summer months. Will not take John Lewis off the hook - is con-
vinced that Lewis is just about at the end of his rope.
BRANNAN
Have 60 million bushels of potatoes on hand - do not know
