ACHESON Central point causing trouble now is concentration of armament in satellite countries. In any future discussion with Soviet the best point of dis- cussion would be the re-armament of Western Europe. Prime Minister of North Korea is asking for better relations between North Korea and the Chinese "Volunteers" now fighting in North Korea. Situation in Iran is not good. They are now threatening to go Communistic if we do not raise the ante on a loan to Iran. X-M Bank has approved 25 million but Iran is asking for more which they cannot use in any event. They now want 100 millions. SNYDER Hearings before Ways & Means Committee are going forward with the usual resistance. Sen George is vacillating from day to day on his position in regard to administration tax bill. MARSHALL Approved in executive session yesterday before Senate Armed Svcs Committee on the manpower requirements of the Armed Forces. There is great resistance to the proposal to draft 18 year old boys. Members are being influenced by small segment of women & mothers who have emo- tional opposition. If present attitude prevails it will result in breaking up homes because older men who are married will have to be called and when that happens the reaction will be terrific. THE PRESIDENT Instructed Perlman to push prosecutions of railroad labor leaders all the way to the Supreme Court.
