THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
31 March 1948
MEMORANDUM FOR: The President
This morning Kermit Roosevelt, son of the late
Colonel Kermit Roosevelt and grandson of the late
X 359
Theodore Roosevelt, called me in regard to the Committee
for Justice and Peace in Palestine.
Mr. Roosevelt is one of the directors of this organi-
zation along with Dean Gildersleeve, Harry Emerson Fosdick,
Coffin, and numerous other prominent Americans. Roosevelt
advised me that the majority of the people on his committee
were inclined to go along with the present policy on
Palestine and would like to make a statement to that effect.
He would like also, at some time convenient to the
President, possibly the middle of April, to bring several
members of the committee, such as Dean Gildersleeve and
Harry Emerson Fosdick, in to see the President with a view
to making a S tatement endorsing the President's present
stand.
I told Mr. Roosevelt that, though I had nothing to do
with matters of this nature, I would present the matter to
the President, and that word would be given to Dr. Garland -
Hopkins, who is the local secretary of the organization at
Metropolitan 5967 here in Washington, as to the
possibility
of such an appointment.
