Dear Congressman:
The President has asked me to thank
you and the Democratic Members of Congress from
the State of Michigan who joined with you for
your letter of October tenth, urging the ap-
pointment of Mr. Robert F. Haggerty as Director
of the Bureau of the Census. Your interest in
letting the President know of your high regard
for the qualifications of Mr. Haggerty is very
much appreciated, and I am glad to assure you
and your colleagues that the President will
give your recommendation most careful considera-
tion.
Very sincerely yours,
TRUMAN
