My dear Rabbi Weinberg:
I am writing, on behalf of the President, to thank you
for your kind letter of January 9th. The President is very
appreciative of your generous comments on his participation in the
dedication
of the AMVETS Carillon. - files 240 Carillon, arlington Can
We will want to bear in mind your offer of service in
12-20-49
connection with the civil rights program. The principles of human
dignity and freedom to which the President has given expression in
his civil rights program are derived not only from the Declaration
of Independence and the Constitution, but from the ethical
teachings of religion. Veterans of the war we so recently fought
against the Nazis' assault on these principles, should be, and I
know they are, deeply devoted to correcting the conditions in our
om country which deny to some of our citizens the full enjoyment
of dignity and freedom.
Cordially,
