MEMO FOR HONORABLE JOHN STEELMAN:
Dear John:
This finally has reached
mi-29 6-29-51 EB.
my desk. Probably by now you have
heard from Secretary Tobin, who agrees
with me that he too hopes the President
will reconsider and send the requested
x15
letter.
I am willing to admit that
Phil Randolph has misbehaved occasion-
ally, but fortunately he is not in the
Paul Robeson class and the members of
the Union, which is a respected AFL
Union, should not be penalized. What
particularly appeals to us practical
guys, and of course would not influence
you academicians, is the fact that next
September is not very far from next
November.
DAVID K. NILES
Administrative Assistant
