JOHNSON, Russell S., 1621 E. Blackthorne, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, dated 2/18/52.
The writer is opposed to an increase in wages for steel workers.
States that the President's approval makes him doubt his sincerity.

HOUCHINS, C. Ted,/Hinton, West Virginia, dated 2/18/52. The writer has been
in politics all of his life and due to the fact that he has been a
Brotherhood of Railroad Trainman, he can understand how Labor Organ-
izations feel about the Democratic Policy of supporting Capital
through Railroad Management. He has been employed by the National
Production Authority and the Defense Transport Administration but
he never received his appointment with the latter due to his Brother-
hood interests. He is a candidate, without opposition, for election
for Member of the Democratic Congressional Committee. Requests to
be made Consultant to Hon. Maurice J. Tobin, Secretary of Labor in
settlement of forty hour week and other greviences in reference to
Railroad Labor Organizations. Requests personal interview. Hopes
that the President has a successful Presidential Campaign.

The writer requests to know what action, if any, has been taken
concerning the Wage and Rules controversy of the Three Operating
Brotherhoods with the Nation's Railroads. States that the outcome of
this dispute will help determine who will be the next President.

Affiliated with the American Federation of Labor, District Lodge No.
38, 5 Park Square Rooms 33,34,35, Boston 16, Massachusetts, dated
2/21/52. Requests the President to notify the Government of Iceland
that this country does not consider tuna canned in any substance to
come within the scope of United States Tariff Act of 1930, paragraph
718(b), as amended and listed in Schedule II of the Trade Agreement
between the United States and Iceland of 1943, and that no canned
tuna in any form will be covered by the tariff applying to com-
modities covered by that paragraph.
HOFFMAN, F. C., 207 3rd Street, Bemidjl, Minnesota, dated 2/21/52. The write
requests the President to take immediate steps to enforce the Pres-
idental Order banning airplanes in the Minnesota Roadless Wild-
erness Area which is within the Quetico-Superior National Forest,
effective 1/1/52.
