My dear Lieutenant Evander:
Please accept the President's thanks
for your recent letter. He appreciates having
this expression of approval of the recent action
taken by him in the steel situation, and is grate-
ful for your thoughtfulness in writing.
Although the President has decided not
to be a candidate for re-election or to accept a
renomination, he wants you to know that your as-
surances of confidence and support mean a great
deal to him.
