Dear Mr. Shain:
The President has asked me to ac-
knowledge your letter to him of March 5th,
which he has read with much interest.
I am mighty sorry to have to give
you an unfavorable reply in response to
your request to see the President. He has
been so unusually busy during these past few
months that it has become necessary for him
to limit his engagements to those pertaining
to the most urgent and official matters. I
feel sure you will realize the situation, and
will understand why it is not possible for him
to make appointments of a personal nature just
at this time.
with best wishes, I am
Very sincerely yours,
MATTHEW J. CONNELLY
Secretary to the President.
