Y 12/16 Fie GAUER AND BUER ATTORNEYS AT LAW 135 WEST WELLS STREET milwaukee 3. WIS. PAUL GAUER SUITE 524 ROBERT J. buer brumder BUILDING E.A. MORGAN PHONE MA. 2350 JOSEPH P. MEYEROFF December 13, 1946 Hon. Harry S. Truman President of the United States Washington, D.C. Honorable Sir: G I have been for you ever since the Truman committee days, for your splendid espousal of F.D. R. Is New Deal ideals, for your attitude on the railroad and coal strikes, for your position in the Henry Wallace affair, with you on your stand on O.P.A. but now your position on the Wyatt resignation disillusions me as to your sincerety, especially, when your man Allen is personally interested. Too many of your advisers seem to be tained with personal interest. How you can do something that alienates a supporter like Editor Evjue of the Capital Times, Madison, Wisconsin, so completely and make it impossible for your friends to reply to your enemies on the housing situation, and expect to survive, I can't understand! More and more people are now coming to understand what Harold Ickes meant when he said he could no longer remain in your cabinet. All I can say is that this latest act of yours is one I cannot tolerate if I consider myself a liberal. I hope it is not too late to drive the Allens out of your official life, and keep the Wyatts in. It is your only chance for survival. Very sincerely yours, PG:jh
