My dear Mrs. Hird:
The President is glad to learn from your
letter of May thirteenth that you were one of his
television guests on the tour of the White House
recently, and that you found enjoyment in his per- #
sonal observations.
The President is deeply touched by your
sentiments regarding his announcement that he will

not be a candidate for re-election and that he
will not accept a renomination. What you say about
anoversment
his service to our country in the Presidency cer-
tainly means a lot to him and he is grateful for
Con
your references to his daughter, Margaret, and her
H
television programs. Your good wishes to him and
his family for the years ahead are more than ap-
preciated.
