Dear Mr. Medd:
The President has asked me to thank you
for your kind comments about his television tour
#
of the White House and for your interesting com-
ments about the Presidential Seal.
The Great Seal of the United States has X 398-A
always had the eagle facing in the same direction
as the olive leaves which are held in one of the
claws of the eagle. For a great many years, the
eagle faced the opposite way on the Presidential x 398-B
Seal, but the Presidential Seal was changed by
executive order of the President on October 25,
1945, and I am enclosing a copy of that Order.
