GOVERNM
Dear Miss Dixon:
I am writing in reply to your letter, addressed to the
President's Committee on Civil Rights, dated December 20, 1947.
The Office of Education was asked for a statement of the
facts in your case and their report is at hand.
From this report it appears that the Office of Education is
eager and willing to promote you to a stenographic position at a
higher level, as soon as you are able to meet the test required by the
Civil Service Commission.
I was much interested in learning of your experience in
applying for jobs related to your background in Education. You were,
of course, looking for work at a time when the Executive branch was
being sharply reduced in force.
I am returning the attachments to your letter in accordance
with your request.
Sincerely yours,
PHILLEO NASH
Assistant to David K. Niles
