fmr P.P. GREEN, William H. Patton West Chester, Pennsylvania 4594 January 15, 1948 Wrote the President that he had seen the newspapers article on his request of "Iturbi to play a waltz by Chopin in A Flat op. 62. Says Chopin never composed a piece Opus 62 in A Flat. Asks the President which is his favorite -January 23, 1948 the Prosident wrote Mr. Green that he had asked Iturbi, the pianist, to play Chopin's A. Flat Opus 42; which is his favorite. "I've heard Paderewski, Rosenthal, Joseph Lhevinne, de Pachmann and half a dozen other pianists play that Waltz. When the young man in the Army by the name of Eugene List came to play for me at Potsdam I asked him to play that Waltz and they had to hunt all over Europe before they could find it. They finally got a booklet from Paris and I turned the pages for him when he played it, he didn't have time to learn it off. Opus 42, I think, is Chopin's greatest Waltz I like them all and I don't count the posthumously pub- lished Waltzes - I am not sure that he wrote them." SEE PPF 3631
