Address:

Regarding:
Letter to the President requesting a congratulatory letter for their
40th Anniversay number; encloses copy of their January issue. Refers
to President's address on June 29, 1947, from the steps of the Lincoln
Memorial to the 38th Annual Conference of the NAACP. ----Ref. to Mr.
Niles from recommendation, 2/6/51, by Mr. Massett. ----Mr. Hassett ack.
2/13/51 (Dear Mr. Ivy) stating that he is familiar with Crisis magazine
and noted the enclosed issue with interest and was happy to note their
warm approval of the President's remarks to the NAACP on the steps of
the Lincoln Memorial. Regrets that the President cannot comply with their
request for letter of congratulations; explains that requests of this
type are so numerous, that the President has had to decline nearly all of
them, in order to conserve his time and energy for matters connected with
the emergency.
