since 611/1/45- P.P.F. 1-14 con 1922 Granada Avenue San Diego 2, California November 9, 1945 K HARRY Go TRUMAN "NATIONAL SER REV Hon. Harry S. Truman The White House Washington, D. C. Dear Mr. Truman: As representative of the Crocker Class of the First Presbyterian Church of San Diego, I am writing to ask your serious consideration of remarks which you are re- ported to have made regarding the use of alcoholic liquor. Enclosed are two pages from the October 22nd issue of the Life magazine in which you are quoted as recommending "a drink of bourbon" as an antidote for trouble and as remarking that "there is nothing wrong with you that a little whiskey wouldn't cure". We deplore your careless use of such remarks, which you must realize are a tremendous boost for the liquor traffic in this country. Knowing that you are a faith- ful mamber of the Baptist church and of the Masonic Lodge, we feel confident that it is only necessary to call this matter to your attention for you to give it serious consideration. We feel that you want the respect, support and prayers of church people throughout the nation. And that you will want to be worthy of that respect by upholding those ideals which keep the American people clean, moral and self- respecting. Yours Dea very respectfully, Kerth First Presbyterian Church of San Diego San Diego Lodge No. 35, F. & A. M.
