Human con letter
The President of The United States,
I
The White House, Washington, D. C.
Dear Mr. President:
You have not the faintest conception of the deep
sense of shame your letter to your daughter's critic has
caused the great mass of citizens. We expect and demand
that our President shall act always and everywhere as a
gentleman. We want to look up to him, not only as one of the
nation's best dressed men, but as one of its best gentlemen.
You, sir, have used the language of a bar-room
brawl, and you have lowered the respect of the world for
the government of the United States. Let us have no more
"Letter writing." We Americans do not want to be ashamed of
our president nor do we long endure to make excuses for
him.
Very truly
Howland
