Pencil note' These gifts cancelled." 5/26/50 the Minister of Finland wrote to Acting Secretary of State informing him that the Intheran Church of Finland desires to present as a gift to the White House, a set for the reading of the Bible, including a table, chair, table lamp, crucifix, and B. facsimile edition of the first Finnish Bible of 1642. A delegation has been appointed to present the gift, headed by the Minister of Finland to the U.S. Dr. K. 2. Jutile, the Rev. Dr. Ilmari Salomies, Bishop of the Mildooli Diocese, and member of Parliament The Rev. Mr. Antti J. Reutenes. Two photos attached and momo. of 6/8/50 to Stanley Woodward from Mr. Hassett.--7/19/50, Mr. Hopkins, sent memo. to Mr. Crim, suggesting we secure, either from Chairman Finley or through the Director of the Park Service as provided in the Code, a recommendation in writing; also that it might be well to check with State to males sure that this is intended as a gift to the White House and not to the President personally. Mr. Hopkins, Aug. 8, by memo., to Mr. Crim referred a memo. of 7/31/50 to Mr. Hopkins from Mr. Crim re these above mentioned gifts. States President gave his approval to di- recting the Dir. of National Park Service to accept gift and recording, to S tore it with other White House property until completion of renovation of the Executive Mansion.
