Enclosure no. 3 to despatch no. 2639
from American Embassy, Rio de Janeiro,
dated August 4, 1947
LINOTYPO DO BRASIL S.A.
Rua Pharoux, 19
Rio de Janeiro
Escritorio do Presidente
July 24, 1947
Dear Mr. Ambassador:
I do not know who is responsible for Secretary
Snyder's visit to Brazil, - although I strongly suspect
that you had considerably to do with it. Regardless of
the foregoing, if Mr. Snyder is representative of the
caliber of men with whom President Truman has surrounded
himself, then I am going to vote the Democratic ticket
in 1948, and I am a staunch Republican.
I cannot emphasize too strongly the impression the
Secretary's talk made on me and the sincerity which I
know was behind it. Thank you for having given me the
opportunity to hear him.
Sincerely yours,
G. W. MATTOX
