Evening June 9 Allied missions Vienna (our 2557,
June 10) gave large and successful party for Russian
officors who have assisted missions during reconnaissance
During long and informal conversation with Gen Rogov
Winterton mentioned forthcoming interview with Tolbukhin
and was informed Tolbukhin has developed illness that
may prevent him being able receive heads of mission but
that his Deputy Col Gen Zheltov yould probably hold the
conference scheduled for June 11.
Rogov was very insistent that missions must leave
when tasks are completed and stressed fact that sooner
the missions left the sooner commissions could come in
and commence work. Rogov said also that Tolbukhin
was anxious to settle matter altho in fact latter and
his staff might not be in Austria much longer. When
Winterton asked if they were gooing to the Far East Rogov
replied it was military secret.
