Bidault assures me that he has been working hard
since his return here on General de Gaulle with regard
to the various matters interesting us. He soid: "You
know that I am of course completely loyal to general
de Gaulle and I believe that if anything happened to him
it would be a great disaster for France. On the other
hand, you know that he is a very difficult man. Even you
cannot realize how much I have to struggle with him en-
deavoring to get him to change his mind when he has onc e
taken an erroneous position. On the other side of the
fence I have the Communists who attack me every time that
