GEN DE Gaulle asked me to come to SEE him this
afternoon at 4:30. (My 3237, June 2) HE began by a
tirade against the British. HE said that "the British
planned the uprising and it would have taken place
EVEN if I had not s ent troops; the British are deter-
mined to oust France from the Levant; the outrageous
attitude of GEnEral Paget in the present circunstances
us
SEEMS likely to lead to war between US and the British.
HE has threatened to fire on French troops and if he
does the French will reply; he EVEN CEnsors our communi-
cations As the British forces are more numerous, ours
will probably be beaten but they will put up a fight.
