Griffith\nSERVIDE\nSOVERN\nReference is made to Initial Report, dated July 2, 1952, submitted in the above-\ncaptioned case.\nThree phases of inquiry were made in the course of this Investigations the attempt\nto locate and intervie members of the Taylor family or surviving persons acquainted\nwith the family; the verification of Mr. Alvin T. Embrey's story through persons and\nrecords to be found in Fredericksburg, Virginia; and the search of reference material on\nchina through sources available in Washington, D. C.\nA preliminary check for the Taylor family was made in the \"Washingtonia\" Section\nof the City Library on May 22, 1952, but no record was found of Pershon Tayleur\nor\nTaylor\nor anyone believed to be related to him.\nOn July 2, 1952, the reporting Special Agent visited Fredericksburg, Virginia, and\ninterviewed Judge Alvin T. Embrey in his offices in the Law Building in that city. Judge\nEmbrey, now 78 years of age, is one of the most prominent citizens in Prodericksburg; is\na descendant of a wealthy and distinguished pioneer fanily, and is still quite active in\nlegal circles in Fredericksburg and the neighboring area. At one time, he was Judge of\nthe 15th Judicial Circuit Court of Virginia, and also served two terms as Commonwealth\nAttorney. Judge Embrey is regarded as one of the outstanding authorities on Northern-\nCentral\nVirginia history and land titles. In the latter category, he worked twelve years\ncompiling several tremendous volumes recording land grants, titles, deeds, and wills,\nwhich\nhave\nconstituted an excellent source work for attorneys over a wide area. In this\nexhaustive\ncompendium,\nJudge\nEmbrey\nhas\ntraced\nmany\nland\ntitles\nfrom\nthe\noriginal\npatents\ngranted in Colonial Virginia. These books were printed in duplicate, and the Judge has\ngiven the original set to the City of Fredericksburg, and they have been placed in a\nspecial room in the Court House, known as the \"Embrey Legal Library.\"\nJudge Embrey is a raconteur and readily tells one story after another, mostly on\ntopics of historical significance.
