Dear Harry:
I appreciated very much your letter
of the 29th in regard to the White House. My
understanding is that the Commission does not
intend to disturb the exterior of the White
House.
For your information, the reason for
the collapse of the inside of the House is due
entirely to lack of supervision under lickim,
Mead and White. I am sorry to have to report
to you that they botched the job. Evidently
they had some good plans, but nobody to see
that they were carried out; hence the collapse
of the work which they did.
That work will now have to come out
and be entirely rebuilt. Had they done the
job right in the first place, it would not now
be necessary.
TROMAN
Sincerely yours,
