RECI IVE
My dear Mr. President:
I read your reply to my notes with interest but, before
acknowledging it, I waited until the Commission met on Friday last.
I wanted to be sure that the revised stairway I had designed was
approved in principle by the Commission. While I still hold that
the
views set forth in my notes are architecturally sound, I am
willing to concede that if the stairway can be brought out on the
center of the Entrance Hall, as now proposed, and not overemphasized,
it would be acceptable. My understanding is that this stairway is
never used except for State functions, and that for daily use by the
President and his family the elevator and stairway adjacent to the
Private Dining Room are adequate.
I should value an opportunity to explain in more detail the
scheme proposed.
Very respectfully and sincerely yours,
arm adams Delano
