Dear Mr. Finley:
Pick
I appreciated yours of the twelfth in regard to the opening
of the exhibition "Makers of History in Washington,
1800-1950' on the evening of June twenty-ninth. I am
very doubtful as to whether 1 can come on that evening -
I have so many things to do that I don't really have time
to turn around, but if you will get in touch with me while
the exhibition is still on display maybe I can come in some
day at an off hour and take a look at it. I'd like very much
to see it.
Mr. Crim was in to see me this morning and discussed the
chandeliers for the rehabilitated White House. As you
know, I am exceedingly anxious that the chandeliers be in
keeping with the period for which the White House stands
and those monstrosities which were in the East Room cer-
tainly were not in conformity with that period.
We succeeded in getting beautiful chandeliers for the main
hallway and for the Green and Red Rooms. If we can get
the right sort for the East Room and for the second floor
hallway, after the restoration is completed, we really will
have accomplished something.
Sincerely yours,
