3 JOHN McSHAIN I7TH & SPRING GARDEN STREETS PHILADELPHIA January 28, 1952 THE WHITE HOUSE JAN 29 // 02 AM '52 RECEIVED My dear Mr. President: Following our meeting in your Cabinet Room on Friday afternoon, I had a long session with the Commissioners and I am writing to assure you that, in spite of the fact that I informed you that it was almost a physical impossi- bility to complete the White House in time for April 2nd, I am still going to make every human effort possible to have your desire realized. I am rearranging my own schedule for the next two months so that I can personally spend a great deal of my time on the job in an effort to expedite the completion. I am also going to ask the Commission for author- ity to assist in the supervision of the interior decorator's work so that, if we are able to accomplisi our work, this particular contractor will not fall down on his part of the project. I am calling a special meeting at the White House, on Wednesday, for the sub-contractors involved, and shortly after that time I hope to be in a position to inform you whether it is humanly possible to have your home ready by April 2nd. In closing, I want to assure you that your re/ marks on Friday were most inspiring, and I am relieved to know you believe that we are doing everything possible to expedite the completion of the building. With kind personal regards, RAUONAL ARCHIVES A Sincerely CORDS SERVICE" The Honorable Harry S. Truman The White House Washington 25, D. C.
