    "ocrText": "With reconnaissance of the main beaches on\nLeyte effected, approach channels cleared and opposition\nneutralized in joint operations to reoccupy the Philippines,\nthe challenge by powerful task forces of the Japanese Fleet\nresulted in a historic victory in the three-phased Battle\nfor Leyte Gulf, October 24 to 26, 1944.\nAccelerating the intensity of aerial offensive\nby pressure exerted at every hostile strong point, Fleet\nAdmiral Nimitz culminated long-range strategy by successful\namphibious assault on Iwo Jima and Okinawa. A wise,\nsteadfast and indomitable leader, Fleet Admiral Nimitz,\nby his daring strategy and his faith in the courage and\nskill of the officers and men under his command, finally\nplaced representative forces of the United States Navy\nin the harbor of Tokyo for the formal capitulation of the\nJapanese Empire. Through his mastery of naval warfare,\nhis strategical skill, his shound judgment and his\ninspiring leadership, he demonstrated the highest\nqualities of a naval officer and rendered services of\nthe greatest distinction to his country. ii"
