President of the United States,

Washington, D. C.
My Dear Mr. President:-
I am enclosing a clipping from the New York Journal-
American of January 26th describing the lack of protection of our Alaskan air-
bases.
Since my election as Grand Exalted Ruler of the Order of
Elks last June, I have been travelling widely throughout the country stressing as
forcefully as I know how, the need for preparedness of our country particularly
against Communists and Communism. Realizing the strategic importance of Alaska,
if the above press clipping contains any semblance of truth, it would seem that
remedial action should be taken immediately or, at the very least, that our weak-
ness in Alaska should not be publicized in our newspapers.
I trust you will fully understand my purpose in writing
this letter and remain, Mr. President,
