OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY
DEPARTMENT OF STATE
WASHINGTON
March 26, 1946
Memorandum for Miss Conway
Dear Miss Conway:
The President's memorandum concerning
Prime Minister Atlee's message of February 25 was
called to my attention today.
When the matter first came to this office
last week I asked the Secretary about it and he had
no recollection of the President referring to him
the suggested letter drafted by the Secretary of
Argiculture. We made a thorough search of our files
and find no record of its ever having been referred
to the Department through the regular channels.
As you know, the Secretary is out of the
city, but we expect him to return by the end of the
week. If the President wishes the Secretary to
comment on the communication, please have a copy of
Secretary Anderson's letter sent to us so that it
will be available immediately upon the Secretary
return and I am sure he will look after it promptly.
