DEPARTMENT OF STATE WASHINGTON SECRET SECURITY INFORMAT ION May 12, 1952 MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT Subject: Visit of the Austrian Chancellor, Dr. Leopold Figl Dr. Figl will make a formal call upon you at 12:00 Noon, May 13, following which your luncheon in his honor is scheduled for 1:00 P.M. After my meeting with the Chancellor at 11:00 A.M., which will be his first official call in Washington, I shall ac- company him to the White House. The other members of the party will be the Austrian Ambassador, Dr. Loewenthal, and Mr. Hans Imhof, a member of Ambassador Donnelly's staff in Vienna, who will serve as interpreter. Dr. Figl's visit to this country was arranged primarily to demonstrate the importance we attach to Austrian affairs, particularly with respect to the continuance of the coalition of which the Chancellor has been the head since 1945. The itinerary for his stay in this country is attached. Dr. Leopold Figl was born in a farming community near Vienna in 1902.
