MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT
Subject: Visit of Prime Minister Mackenzie King
The Prime Minister is stopping informally for a
few days in Washington on his way back to Ottawa after
a month's vacation at Virginia Beach and Williamsburg
where he went to complete his recuperation from an
attack of pneumonia suffered at Ottawa in February.
We understand that the Prime Minister's call on
you is informal and chiefly for the purpose of paying
his respects. It is possible that he will mention the
following matters to you in a very general way:
Your Visit to Ottawa.
The Prime Minister announced in the House of Com-
mons several weeks a.go that you would visit Ottawa
"early in June" We have since informed the Canadians
that it is your wish to make the visit on June 10, 11,
and 12, and that Mrs. Truman will accompany you.
Preparations are now under way at Ottawa.

There are increasing rumors that Canada may be
compelled to devaluate her dollar again. It now ap-
pears that her action on July 5, 1946, in re-establishing
parity with our dollar may have been premature. She then
had an unprecedented U. S. dollar balance and evidently
underestimated
