Dear Mr. Ambassador:
I can't tell you how very much I appreciated
your thoughtfulness in sending me a copy of
your letter to Mr. Miller about the situation in
Chile. I have been somewhat worried about it
and I am glad to have your analysis because it
is rather reassuring.
It is absolutely necessary that we maintain our
good standing with the Republics south of us and
I am particularly anxious that we should have the
friendship of the Republic of Chile.
Y ou were kind and thoughtful to send me the in-
formation which was contained in your letter to
Mr. Miller.
Sincerely yours,
HARRY S. TRUMAN
Honorable Claude G. Bowers
The American Ambassador
Santiago, Chile
President added in longhand - "Your review of the Life of Bolivar by the
Spanish Author was most interesting. It was in the N.Y. Times.'
