TOP SECRET
CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY
WASHINGTON 25, D.C.
28 December 1948
china
MEMORANDUM
SUBJECT: Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek
EO 13526
The Central Intelligence Agency has received information
3.3 (b)(1)
to the effect that the Generalissino will probably issue
a statement of his resignation within approximately forty-eight (48)
hours. He is resigning in favor of the Vice President who will
immediately issue a peace statement directed to the Communists.
If the peace offer is rejected, the Vice President will refer the
matter to the United States, the USSR, France and Great Britain
to mediate. The Generalissino and his advisors are now preparing
the statement in final form.
(Washington comment: The above information came from only one
source and up to the present the Central Intelligence Agency has
not been able to confirm it.)
