SUMMARY OF UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT ECONOMIC AND MILITARY
AID AUTHORIZED FOR CHINA SINCE 1937
Since the commencement of hostilities between China and
Japan in 1937, the United States Government has authorized aid to China
in the form of grants and credits totalling approximately $3,523,000,000.
Of this amount, $2,422,000,000 has been in the form of grants and
$1,101,000,000 has been as credits.
Aid from 1937 to V-J Day
About 40 percent of the total, or $1,515,700,000 was author-
ized prior to V-J Day to assist the Chinese Government in the war
against Japan and to contribute to the stabilization of China's war-
time economy. The various measures of U.S. Government aid authorized
for China from 1937 to V-J Day are listed in Table A. (A brief
description of each measure is contained in Appendix A.)
