Caffery his extreme pleasure over his trip to the United
States and particularly his conversations with the President,

short time in order to arrange several matters, including
northwestern Italy and the Levant situation. He stated
his realization that the future of France depends on good
relations with the United States which must not be im-

thing about Frenay's actions over the French prisoners in
Germany and the attacks on SHAEF in certain French papers.
He stated that he would not hesitate to use pressure, in-

political mainstay, on de Gaulle in order to bring about
desired results. Bideult concluded the conversation by
stating that he wished to bring de Gaulle to the United
States to visit President Truman in about a month's time.
He asked for Ceffery's opinion on this matter.
