MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT
Subject: Current Foreien Develomments
Mikolajezyk's Attitude on Moscow Conversations.
The British Foreign Office has sent to Schoenfeld a
memorandum of the British interview with Mikolajezyk
in order that there might be no misunderstanding
between the American and British Governments regarding
Mikolajcayk's views. The British memorandum is in
substantial accord with the report already submitted
by Schoenfeld. The only differences arise out of
Mikolajezyk's statement to the British that Trampezynski,
a National Democrat in Poland, should be included in
the conversations and a request for guarantees. These
guarantees include Russian agreement to freedom of
movement and discussion and freedom from arrest and
interference, including the right to depart when the
conversations in Moscow are over.
Laval to Surrender to the French. The Spanish
Foreign Minister has informed Ambessador Armour that
Lavel now wishes volunterily to surrender to the Fronch
authorities. The necessary arrangements are being made.
Belcimn Prime Minister to Visit King. Belgian
Prime Minister plans to lenve on June 4 to see the
King and will urge the necessity for immediate decision.
Ven Acker feels that the only solution is abdication.
