MEMORANDUM FOR THE SECRETARY OF DEFENSE
SUBJECT: Reserve Recalls of the Air Force and Navy
Ref:
Your memorandum of 20 July 1950 to Secretaries of the
Army, Navy and Air Force
1. In accordance with reference memorandum, the Munitions Board
has received copies of Air Force and Navy directives recalling certain
numbers of their reserve components.
2. The Air Force directive of 20 July provided for the immediate
recall of individuals from the Air Force Reserve as follows: 8,136
officers and 41,536 enlisted men. This total recall of 49,672, when
added to the current strength of 408,777 (30 June), places the pro-
posed strength of the Air Force well within the authorized ceiling of
502,000. No units of either the Air National Guard or the U.S. Air
Force Reserve have yet been designated for recall.
3. The Air Force directive listed the proposed reserve recall
by military specialty. Some of these skills may be in short supply
in the overall economy, and we will be watching this problem in suc-
cessive calls.
4. The Navy recall directive of 20 July provided for activation
of reserve personnel over a period of about 3/2 months, as follows: :
