WAR DEPARTMENT CLASSIFIED MESSAGE CENTER INCOMING CLASSIFIED MESSAGE DESLASSIFIED CHACID' TOT E.O. 11652, Sec. 3(E) and 5(D) or a URGENT Dept. of State letter, Aug. 10, 1972 BYNETHIC NARS Date 72875 From: Supremo Headquarters, Allied Expeditionery Forces, Forward, Frankfurt, Germany To: War Department Nr: FWD 25302 15 June 1945 FWD 25302 AGWAR, PERSONAL to General Mershall from Eisenhower from SHAEF Frod. With respecto to Harrimanis proposal for Moscow visit outlined in your W 16827 the following are my comments: Mr. Hoplains seemed to think some good might be accom- plished by my making a crip to Moscow. One or two Russian officers have indicated shat it would be e nice thing for. me to do. I have no definite thoughts on the matter myself. I am ready to maike the trip if you or the President should so desire. I do not lmow whether the July 9th date has any special significance, but Mr Hopkins did sey that he thought that to be useful, the Grip should be made before the next meeting of the Big Three. Unless something unforeseen odcurs, I should think I would be back here by that time, Frankly, vhile I would very much enjoy a rest, I expect to makre aprangements later to catch a few breathers 30 I may as well get on back here and get into harness by the date indicated I would desire a day or two in this Headquerters before making the Moscow trip in order to be fully abreast CM-IN-14465 (15 Jun 45) to s ARCHOYES HATIONAL RECORDS SERVICE** AND COPY No. THE MAKING OF AN EXACT COPY OF THIS MESSAGE IS FORBIDDEN
